                              Edge is new
                            money and more money. It’s
Dolce e Gabbana sandals, Prada rucksacks and suede-peaked
baseball caps. Alderley Edge is where Manchester footballers
                            bring their tin-opener-voiced, pony-mad, disco-found
brides to set up home. It’s where loveable,
long serving characters from Coronation Street settle.
It was no coincidence, then, that David Beckham and
Victoria chose to settle here when David was playing
for Manchester United and their regular visits to
the fish & chip shop was a frequent event.
 Around the village,
winding lanes are covered in their original sandstone
setts and front boundary walls are usually built
from the same local sandstone. The buildings are
very varied in style with examples of Tudor, Italian,
neo-Georgian and Arts and Crafts Movement designs.

 Where is Alderley Edge
Just 15 miles directly South from Manchester
Town Centre, 5 miles from Manchester Airport, 2 miles
from Wilmslow with access to both the M56 and M6
Motorways. Alderley Edge lies some miles to the northwest
                            of Macclesfield

Nightlife... The nightlife in Alderley is legendary and even attracts
the attention of personalities such as Jeremy Clarkson
of Top Gear to comment on its breadth and depth!
Every kind of after hours entertainment is available
from music and food to clubs and exclusive watering
holes. More champagne is sold in Wilmslow and Alderley
Edge each month than in any other place in the UK.
  Shops...
 Alderley Edge high street bristles
with chic restaurants, designer shops and speciality
food shops, including traditional butchers, florists
and local produce shops. However, Wilmslow is just
a short drive or the A34 by-pass takes
                            you to Tesco's, M&S,
                            B&Q,
                            John Lewis and Sainsbury's

  History... Alderley
Edge takes its name from the wooded escarpment towering
above the Cheshire Plain, with fine views and walks.
It is situated on a steep sandstone ridge with rolling
fields and woodland surrounding it. Here people can
enjoy the leafy lanes and open fields and the magnificent
                            views from The Edge itself.

On a clear day one can pick out landmarks
                            some 30 miles away.

The area is notable for its heavily wooded
streets and substantial Victorian villas set in spacious,
well-planted gardens. The first villa was constructed
in the early 1840s and by 1850 thirty "handsome
residences" had been erected, some of them in
what is now the Alderley Edge Conservation Area.
The cotton barons from Manchester built their mansions
here and now they are changing hands for several
                            million pounds.

 Famous people...
 The area is the
home of a number of affluent people, many of whom
are multi-millionaires, such as football players,
pop stars and business people. These include
Manchester United players Rio Ferdinand, Cristiano
                            Ronaldo, Mikaël Silvestre and Michael
Carrick, as well as Liverpool star Peter Crouch,
musicians Bernard Sumner and Peter Hook. A number
of Coronation Street actors, including Denise Welch
and Richard Fleeshman also live in the village. Other
famous members of the community include property
entrepreneur, worth more than £500m, Peter
Jones ('Jones Homes' and 'The Emerson Group') and
TV presenter and voice-over artist Stuart Hall.
